British Council Ireland were thrilled to collaborate on the official launch of Design Declares Ireland, on Tuesday 14th November 2023 in The Dean Townhouse, Dublin.

Design Declares is a growing group of designers, design studios, agencies and institutions that have declared a climate and ecological emergency. As part of the global declaration movement, they have committed to harnessing the tools of their industry to reimagine, rebuild and heal the world. Now they have brought the global movement to Ireland, providing a framework and a platform to support designers in designing for the planet - for themselves, and for their clients.

At the launch we heard from their keynote speaker Alexie Sommer, co-founder of Design Declares UK, about how the movement started and how the eight Acts of Emergency provide a framework for change that can be brought to everyday practice. The DD Ireland steering group also explained what this means for designers in Ireland, and we heard from national businesses and initiatives already prioritising sustainable design practice to understand how they got started and what this looks like in their business.
