Gastronaut Live

When: 18-19 July

Where: O’Reilly Theatre

TV presenter Stefan Gates brings his extraordinary live show to Dublin.

A spectacular edible science show by BBC Gastronaut Stefan Gates full of exciting and hilarious moments. Expect rockets made from food, edible chemical reactions and food explosions. Stefan uses explosive stunts to transform complex science into an unforgettable, relevant and very, very funny edible adventure.

Stefan Gates is an award-winning TV presenter, author and renowned live show presenter who headlines many of the world’s biggest science festivals.

Adventure Science

When: 20-21 July

Where: Science Gallery Dublin

Take a deep dive into ADVENTURE SCIENCE with Huw James, a Welsh Scientist, Adventurer and Film Maker.

Field scientists are some of the best adventurers. From eating bugs for survival and how to be prepared– discover the most important ideas you need in order to survive an adventure outdoors.

Expect a one hour show for families (aimed primarily at early teens) or those interested in discovering more about being an explorer or adventurer.

Huw is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. His mission going forward is to inform a new generation of custodians for our natural world and everything that lives in it by tackling the big 3 problems of pollution, climate change and wildlife extinction.

Future/Island 2019

When: 17 July

Where: O'Reilly Theatre

Explore the future of work, learning, and play. Take a deep dive into the skills of the future. How will our work environments and education systems adapt to the skills of the future? What roles do science, research, creativity, and design have in shaping future jobs as we re-imagine how we live, how we learn and how we work?  

The Festival of Curiosity is inviting experts in innovation, HR, public engagement, education, science communication, arts, design and research together to take a deep dive into the skills of the future. 

Speakers including: IKEA intelligence specialist Lydia Choi Johansson (IKEA Play Report), Twenty One Toys founder Ilana Ben-Ari (The Empathy Toy and The Failure Toy), Dr. Ruth Freeman (Director for Science and Society at Science Foundation Ireland), Dermot Casey (Venture Investment Leader at NDRC) and Colman Farrell (Head of Programme Development, UCD Innovation Academy).
