The British Council is delighted to partner with Axis Ballymun in announcing the Irish première of the acclaimed photographic exhibition, #IAmIrish.
A celebration of diversity, #IamIrish makes its Irish debut in celebration of Black History Month, October 2017 in Axis.
Inspired by a persisting lack of representation of the Black Irish experience, Lorraine Maher launched the project #IamIrish to celebrate mixed race Irish people and to question the concept of ‘Irishness’ and what an authentic Irish identity means for Irish communities today.
Lorraine has collaborated with photographer Tracey Anderson to make an intimate study of the faces, lives and experiences of 24 mixed race Irish people. The exhibition will be complimented by a series of schools visits and conversations exploring how the world perceives colour, culture identity and heritage, and the challenges we face in today’s society. A free public panel discussion will take place on Wednesday 25 October at 7pm in Axis. Tickets available via Eventbrite.

Lorraine and Axis are very grateful to the British Council and Dublin City Council Arts Office for their generous support in helping to make this exhibition and the important conversations that lie at its heart possible.
