Welsh education delegates visiting Dublin City University’s Institute of Education in November 2025, learning about policy and best practice approaches in literacy, numeracy and teaching in Ireland.

We partnered with Dublin City University’s Institute of Education in November 2025 to deliver the British Council’s International Education Programme study visit for Welsh school teachers and local authority officials to learn about policy and best practice approaches in literacy, numeracy and teaching in Ireland.

Funded by the Welsh Government Education Directorate, Welsh school teachers and local authority stakeholders engaged in a week-long study visit to Ireland as part of the International Education Programme.

Across the week, delegates met with partners at Dublin City University’s Institute of Education, the Welsh Government in Ireland, the Irish Government’s Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), as well as Irish and English medium schools:

We are especially grateful to Dublin City University’s Institute of Education and experts from DCU’s research centres, Centre of Language & Literacy, SEALBHU Centre for Inclusive Pedagogy, and also experienced their fantastic Changemakers network and schools’ programme.

This is the second visit this year and we are delighted to support these visits which focus on best practices related to key Welsh government priorities and explore educational strategies in different countries. The goal is to bring insights and learning back to Welsh schools and policy development in order to be alert to developments in practice and policy, engage in knowledge sharing, challenge current practices and provide professional development opportunities as well as support ongoing exchange and collaboration between Wales and Ireland.
